The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, seeks a qualified implementing partner for the 2024 Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Program in Tanzania.

Program Overview

The AWE Program aims to empower Tanzanian women to realize their economic potential, fostering a more stable, secure, and prosperous society. The initiative will engage 90 to 100 women entrepreneurs from Tanzania in a comprehensive educational program to enhance their business development skills.

Program Components

The selected awardee will develop a robust program that increases the entrepreneurial capacity of AWE beneficiaries, incorporating the DreamBuilder online course as a central feature. Key elements of the program include:

Facilitated Viewing Sessions: Opportunities for participants to discuss course topics and network.

Localized Content: Adaptation of modules to reflect local context, including guest speaker sessions.

Supplementary Activities: Mentorship, partnerships with business incubators, speed networking, and pitch competitions.

Alumni Engagement: Innovative strategies to involve AWE alumni.

Participant Requirements

Comfortable with English for coursework and assignments.

  • Intermediate English proficiency and basic computer skills.
  • Able to commit eight hours per week to the program.
  • Access to a computer workstation and stable internet connection.

Facilitator Qualifications

  • Extensive mentoring experience.
  • Proven entrepreneurial success.
  • Relevant educational background (e.g., marketing, accounting, business management).
  • A strong network of investors, start-ups, and entrepreneurs.

Funding and Duration

  • Award Amount**: Up to $46,933
  • Program Duration**: Must be completed within 12 months.

Target Audience

  • Women aged 18-45 from Arusha, Morogoro, and Dar es Salaam.
  • Individuals with minimal business experience but a strong entrepreneurial idea.
  • Candidates must meet the language and technical requirements outlined above.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants include:

  • Registered non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as associations, think tanks, and civil society organizations.
  • Organizations focusing on women and start-ups with an established entrepreneurial network in Tanzania.

Ineligible applicants:

  • For-profit or commercial entities.
  • Individual applicants.
  • Organizations with significant experience in entrepreneurship and business programs, particularly those focused on women’s empowerment and start-ups in Tanzania, will receive priority.
